Ford Ranger Tuning done properly, the first time
The Ranger is a genuinely good ute with a cautious factory tune. The 2.0 Bi-Turbo has plenty of potential but feels peaky and relies heavily on its ten-speed automatic to stay in the meat of the torque curve. The 3.0 V6 is strong from the factory and gets stronger. The 3.2 five-cylinder is a proven engine that responds to a tune with exactly the low-end grunt owners wish it came with. In every case, the aim is the same: usable torque earlier, a transmission that settles down, and a ute that tows without feeling like it is at its limit.

2.0 Bi-Turbo Tuning
The 2.0 Bi-Turbo makes respectable numbers from the factory but delivers them in a narrow band, which is why the ten-speed automatic shifts as often as it does. Tuning widens that band — fuelling, boost and timing are adjusted so torque comes in earlier and stays flatter, and the transmission calibration is tidied up so the ute stops cycling through gears on undulating highway.
Under tow the improvement is obvious. Less shifting, less throttle to hold speed and lower exhaust gas temperatures on sustained climbs. For a small-capacity engine doing big-ute work, that heat reduction matters as much as the extra torque.
3.0 V6 and 3.2 Five-Cylinder
The 3.0 V6 in the current Ranger and Everest is the pick for heavy towing, and a custom tune adds meaningful torque without asking anything unreasonable of the engine. Combined with a good exhaust it makes an extremely capable tow vehicle that feels unstressed at weight.
The 3.2 five-cylinder remains a favourite for good reason — simple, durable and torquey. Tuning gives it the low-end response it always deserved and cleans up the throttle mapping. Higher-kilometre 3.2s often benefit from a fuel system and injector check at the same time, which we can do in-house.
Supporting Upgrades and Reliability
Rangers that tow or carry weight benefit from an upgraded intercooler and a 3-inch exhaust alongside the tune, and from a transmission cooler if they spend their life behind a van. Where the factory turbo is the limiting factor, an upgraded unit is the logical next step, matched with a revised map.
We assess each vehicle before tuning, log rail pressure, boost and exhaust gas temperatures during development, and keep the calibration inside safe limits. If the ute needs mechanical attention first, we will tell you before we touch the tune.
